Chongqing - 2019 Chinese-French Day of Cultural Heritage kicked off at Château de Champs-sur-Marne in Paris. It was held to promote the protection of cultural heritage in China and France. Here, the promotion presentation of Diaoyu Fortress launched, too, ready to apply to become a World Heritage Site. The promotion presentation grabbed the attention of experts and guests.

Organized by Art Exhibition China and Chongqing Hechuan People’s Government, the event promoted tourism in Hechuan District and launched the application for World Heritage Site status. In addition, a seminar on international cultural heritage and sites was held. The event invited Le Centre des Monuments Nationaux (National monuments center), International Council on Monuments and Sites, and other relevant departments and guests to take part.

Moreover, Hechuan District visited Italy to promote Diaoyu Fortress, after the promotion presentation in France. It was popular with Italy people, attracting people’s interest in this historical and cultural place.

Hechuan District, which is famous for the history of wartime, especially Diaoyu Fortress as an ancient battlefield. “Diaoyu Fortress is one of the best protected ancient battlefields in China," Luo Limin, Director of Application Office in Hechuan District, said. "It is also the precedent and model to study the military defense system in the mountain and fortification techniques of the field battle.”

Diaoyu Fortress is ready to apply for the world heritage site

With 36 years’ history, the Siege of Diaoyu Fortress changed the construction and pattern of the battle between Europe and Asia at that time. Moreover, it has an indirect effect on the world’s history and influents Chinese history directly. It kept the military relics of the Song Dynasty and the Mongol Empire in the 13^th century.

The promotion presentation in France

Hechuan Started to apply for the World Heritage Site in 2008 and was collected on the tentative list in 2012.

“We will cater to the international cultural value by intensifying archaeological excavations, to accelerate the speed of world heritage site application. Besides, Hechuan will strive to protect the Diaoyu Fortress site better to disseminate traditional culture, thus, letting the scenic spot to move towards to the world.” Said Luo Limin.
