One kilometer away from Qingyang Town of Fuling District, Chongqing, on the wavy terrain, there stands Chen Wanbao Manor, which is one of China’s top ten landlord manors.
In Qing Dynasty, Chen’s Family built 14 luxurious manors here. After more than 100 years, 7 of them has remained today. The best preserved one is Shilongjing Manor (referred as Chen Wanbao Manor), the owner of which was Chen Wanbao’s second son. The construction of this manor took 12 years, cost more than RMB 30 million (USD 4.3 million) and involved over 300 craftsmen.
The Manor, a quadrangle dwelling, sits in the south and faces the north. It covers an area of 12 acres with 120 rooms. Walk into the ancient Manor, you will find it equipped with facilities complete in all lines - stage for opera, patio, garden, pond, warehouse, ground for grain thresh, breeding stock, etc.
Two same pieces will never be found from the hundreds of decorating wood and stone carving works, so it is with the patterns on windows.
The geometric beauty can be appreciated in the 48 exquisitely carving beams.
Fine craftsmanship can be found even in the corner. The whole Manor is a showcase of great wealth and outstanding craftsmanship.
