2018 (Africa) China Commodities and Equipment Manufacturing Industry Expo and Chongqing Export Commodities (Africa) Tour Exhibition kicked off on November 15. Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government organized the expo together. Meanwhile, the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce undertook the expo together. It opened in Johannesburg, South Africa, and last for 3 days. During the three-day expo, Chongqing enterprises received a total of 2,000 local traveling traders and Chinese businessmen. 35 Chongqing enterprises reached intentional cooperation agreements and 21 intentional contracts with local traveling traders. In addition, the on-site signing amount reached USD 5.1 million.

Chongqing Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export has also reached cooperative intentions with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in South Africa, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Africa and Southern Africa Chinese Entrepreneurs Association, which plans to cooperate in trade opportunities, business visits, exhibitions, two-way investment and friendship city building.

South Africa: Strong Buying Power and Market Capacity
Changan Automobile is sought-after among local consumers thanks to local agents. Not a few traveling traders expressed their purchasing intentions. Sokon Group reached cooperative intentions with traveling traders without the physical exhibits depending on its Model 580 and single-row trucks. Also, Qingling Motors and SAIC Hongyan carried out fruitful cooperation negotiations.

Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (Group) Co., Ltd. inspected the Johannesburg fruit market late at night, actively seeking the business opportunity of taking South African lemons to the global market.

Power gasoline generators of Hwasdan, small generators of Senci Electric Machinery, and lifting tools of Toho-Rongkee have found them a hit South Africa market. Favored by South African businessmen, 10 generator prototypes of Chongqing Weimente Electromechanical Manufacturing Co., Ltd. sold out on the second day of the Expo.

When it comes to cooperation between the two sides, South Africa has an edge over the manufacturing heavy equipment, while Chongqing Changzheng Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (Changzheng Heavy) undertakes Bangladesh’s bidding for about 1,000 wagons with a total contract amount of about USD 60m. Therefore, Changzheng Heavy negotiated with Global Railway Engineering Company to give priority to the purchase of South African vehicle parts.

On the morning of Nov. 19, the Chongqing Exhibition Delegation held the Chongqing-Cape Town Economic and Trade Cooperation Matchmaking Meeting.

The Chongqing Economic and Trade Delegation also held talks with Dong Kun, Chief Representative of the South Africa Representative Office of China-Africa Development Fund (CADF), who introduced the economic development level and cooperation opportunities of the eight countries in South Africa and discussed financial cooperation for the overseas development of enterprises.
