The opening ceremony of Beibei Historical and Cultural Museum kicked off in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. Additionally, it is free to the public.

Covering an area of 800 square meters, the exhibition hall adopts the design integrated with the quintessence of Chinese and Western cultures. With the combination of space and plane, as well as of materials and colors,  its four sections show the historical timeline, namely, historical collections, models for rural building, Beibei's strategic importance during the War of Resistance and "looking into the future".

A total of more than 1,000 cultural relics on show represent a showcase of Beibei’s over 2,000 years of history from Ba (an ancient state) to the modern times.

The largest sunken miniaturized landscape among museums in Chongqing

This museum boasts the largest sunken miniaturized landscape in terms of museums in Chongqing. The exquisite architectural model covers an area of 93 square meters. It, in the proportion of 1:500, reproduces the landscape of Beibei after the rural construction in the 1940s.

Furthermore, there is also a characteristic wall built for historical and cultural celebrities. Additionally, visitors can scan the QR code at the bottom of the photos for more details about their lives.

“The scene that Fudan University moved westward to Beibei District will reappear in the museum,”  a source from the museum introduced. 

This museum will also reveal Beibei’s historical panorama during the “Third Front Movement”, a large-scale regional industrialization campaign in China, as well as a batch of unique exquisite cultural and creative products.

Origins of those cultural relics

Since the second half of 2017, Beibei District has set up panels to archives centers and libraries. They have been in Taiwan, Shanghai, Nanjing and other places for historical materials. In addition, these panels have brought back a large number of precious photos, audiovisual products and celebrities’ notes. In fact, these provide important contents for the syllabus compilation.

Later on, Chongqing Bureau of Cultural Relics worked with Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Southwest University, Chongqing Normal University and related district-level institutions, to form a team of experts, thus ensuring the accuracy and professionalism of the exhibition contents.

“The vigorous support of civil society is of great importance.” The source from the museum added that since the summer of 2017, Beibei has collected the cultural relics through multiple channels, such as donations and purchasing, receiving the full support of collectors from all walks of life.
