Doctors of Chongqing Go to Ethiopia for Medical Assistance

Medical assistance team members are mainly from Xinqiao Hospital Chongqing.

Chongqing - January 14, the medical assistance team attended the setting-out ceremony at Xinqiao Hospital, an affiliated hospital of (China) Army Medical University (the “University” for short). The team members are military surgeons and experts from the University. It is the fifth aid team dispatched by the University who undertakes the task to support medical care in Ethiopia.

Doctors from Xinqiao Hospital constitute the principal part of the army medical expert team. The team members will provide one-year support to the General Hospital of the Ethiopian National Defense Force. The team also aims to improve the local medical treatment capability and public health of Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.

Liang Xiaojun, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology Department in Xinqiao Hospital, is the team leader. He expressed that all the members would inherit and develop international humanitarian spirit. They will strive to accomplish the mission.

For the unwillingness to part with family, Lin Rongmao, a father of two children, described his experience. When he received the assignment, his daughter said, “Father, you are my pride. I give you a big thumbs up.”

The expert team went to Chengdu by high-speed train on the afternoon of the day. Then, they would take the direct flight from Chengdu to Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia is located in the northeast of Africa with the average altitudes from 2,500 to 3,000 meters. Boasting the highest terrain among African countries, it wins the nickname of “the Roof of Africa”.
