Awesome! A Weightlifter from Southwest University Won Five Gold Medals and Set a New World Record in IWF World Cup

The 2019 IWF World Cup & Qualification Event for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games kicked off in Fuzhou, in the east Chiniese Province of Fujian on February 24. Li Dayin from Chongqing competed for China in the men’s 81kg division. Moreover, he bagged three gold medals in the snatch (171kg), the clean and jerk (204kg) and the total (375kg), breaking the world record.

The first international weightlifting competition in 2019

Sponsored by IWF, the competition is a qualification event. In fact, it is a points-earning event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in. More than 130 weightlifters from 16 countries and regions including China, USA, and Italy took part in it. In addition, they vied for the entry qualification for the weightlifting of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

This competition is also the first international weightlifting competition in 2019, inviting top 10 weightlifters from all countries to participate. Besides, with outstanding performance, Li Dayin succeeded in five of its six attempts.

In 2016, Sports School of Qianjiang District sent Li Dayin to Chongqing Municipality Weightlifting Sports Management Center for training. He was selected to the national weightlifting team in 2017. In the 2018 World Weightlifting Championships, he won the gold medal lift at 204kg in the clean and jerk. Next, he will continue his training for the Chinese national team to prepare for the weightlifting of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
