Two Ancient Song Dynasty Tombs Found in Nanchuan District

Recently, workers found two large-scale ancient tombs while building roads in the Laiyouguan Community, Xicheng Subdistrict, Nanchuan District, which belonged to the Song Dynasty (960-1279 A.D.) through preliminary judgment. After more than half a month of hurry-up cleaning, the staff completed the clearing and excavation work on April 1.

The two rectangular tombs stand side by side, and apart from the artificial destruction on the entrances, the rest of the parts, including the drainage systems, are well preserved.

According to the staff, the tombs have ingenious layout inside with exquisite sculpture and relatively distinct religious features, and no such tombs have been discovered before in Chongqing.
