April 11 is Pet Day, though this day has a low awareness in China, the pet owners in Chongqing have their passion and love for adopting and having a pet like family. iChongqing visited 3 pet owners’ families to hear their stories about having a pet in Chongqing.
"Many people believe that humans are superior to animals, but is that really true? We're not able to come close to possessing the pure & perfect unconditional love that animals offer. If we could, we'd have no need for this day... because all the shelters would be empty", said Colleen Paige, the National Pet Day founder. During the interview, the 1st family is Ms. Faith and her boy dog Riley, Faith said Riley is part of her family in Chongqing. The second family Kai and Xiaolin said that they hope more parks are pet-friendly in the future. Julio, the third pet owner told us about the rescue and adoption stories with a sad beginning but a happy ending to have Hachi and Nala.
Overall, all the interviewees wish all the pet owners treat their pet like family and keep them safe and happy. Pet’s safety concern is a priority for them. They hope people who don’t like pets can respect others in order to build a good relationship among all neighbors. There is no doubt that pet owners should be responsible – walk with the leash if there are crowds, maintain the cleanness of neighbor’s environment, keep their pet safe from others and so on.
