From UK to SW China: Westminster School Share Seminar Held in Chongqing

Chongqing - on June 30th, Chengdu Westminster School Share in Chongqing held in Jiangbeizui with the theme “what makes a good education.” It is the 1st share seminar of CWS after the launch ceremony on April 2019 in Chengdu.

Mr. Rodney Harris, Head Master of Chengdu Westminster School, arrived with his team and met face-to-face with over 100 parents, educators, and journalists. Ms. Cecille El Beleidi, Consul General of the British Consulate General in Chongqing, delivered a speech at the scene and expressed her support for the activities and exchange of education and culture between China and Britain.

According to Ms. Cecille El Beleidi, Consul General of the British Consulate General in Chongqing, she indicated that British education is world-renowned, Westminster is one of the top academic school in the UK, and the collaboration of education will deepen between the UK and China in the future. “I believe that the Westminster School in Chengdu will continue the tradition of Westminster in the UK with Chinese characteristics. Let Chinese children benefit from high-quality English education,” Ms. Cecille El Beleidi said in her speech. The establishment of the Westminster School in Chengdu also represents the opportunity of a world-class international education for those living in Chongqing, or Sichuan, the site being a 2-hour drive from Chongqing.

In Mr. Rodney Harris's seminar, he introduced the history and achievements of British Westminster School and the background of the development of Westminster School in the UK. Then, he discussed the context of globalization and the golden age of China-British relations. Westminster decided to develop in China two years ago and plans to open six schools within ten years in China. The 900 years of teaching philosophy and teaching methods have spread far outside London.

"Chongqing is a city with profound cultural heritage and vitality," said Mr. Harris. "It is also a window for foreign exchanges. The British Consulate General is located in Chongqing and continues to promote China-British education cooperation. As the core of the Sichuan-Yunnan economic zone, both Chengdu and Chongqing have the densest populations and the most concentrated industries. The two cities have strong economic complementarities, and there will be more integrated development in the future, especially in the field of education.
