Lighting in Jiangbeizui Skyline: Celebrating 70 years of Diplomatic Relations between China and Hungary

On October 1, 1949, the People's Republic of China was founded, and six days later, Oct. 6, 1949, Hungary announced diplomatic relations with China. This year marks the 70th anniversary of China`s National Day as well as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and China.

20 Aug. is the founding day of Hungary, also known as St. Stephen's Day, to commemorate the first king and the founder of Hungary, Stephen I (Szent István király) of Hungary. This day is also celebrated as Hungary`s National holiday.

Under the strong supports of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Jiangbei District People's Government, the Hungarian Consulate General in Chongqing launched the 8/20 Lighting Ceremony. On the evening of August 20th around 20:00-21:00, there were nine buildings in Jiangbeizui lit up to present greetings to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and China as well as the Hungarian National Day, accompanied by electronic fireworks.

The Hungarian Consulate General in Chongqing is collecting photos of the building celebrations from the city. All citizens are welcome to send the images of the lighting celebration to the designated mailbox jing.li@mfa.gov.hu. The consulate will select the top three and send each of them a Hungarian gift. In addition, the Hungarian Consulate General in Chongqing will also publish the works of the winners on the official WeChat account. The deadline for sending photos is 5 pm on August 22, 2019.
