Chongqing International Cultural Industry Expo: A Bridge for Chongqing to Promote Its Culture Globally

On September 15, the four-day Chongqing International Cultural Industry Expo (CICIE) drew a satisfactory conclusion.

It offered a platform where Chongqing people experienced the charm of the world, while international exhibitors and visitors learned the history and culture of Chongqing.

It is also believed that CICIE would boost Chongqing’s economic benefit, facilitate the exchanges among exhibitors, and inspire the thinking about how to promote Chongqing culture globally.

Making RMB 100 thousand by selling Miao Embroidery Pieces

On September 15, the company of Chen Guotao, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) inheritor of Youzhou Miao Embroidery, achieved a fruitful result, with the sales revenue of over RMB 100,000 “We have helped around 1,000 poverty-stricken women, deaf-mute students, and the disabled from rural regions to learn the skills of the Miao Embroidery, and their works are popular in this CICIE,” Chen Guotao expressed.

The popularity of Miao Embroidery has promoted Shu Embroidery. On the site, Li Fei, the ICH inheritor of Shu Embroidery was showing visitors how to practice this work. She introduced that her booth received many people who showed interests in Shu Embroidery, and it was so widely-welcomed that there were floods of people around the workbench for the experience.

Arena for wood carvings and potteries

In the Rongchang Pottery Exhibition Area of N3 Hall, pieces of colorfully-glazed Rongchang potteries present bright luster and unique forms and decorations. Liu Dong, a district-level inheritor of the craftsmanship of Rongchang pottery, introduced that the number of Rongchang pottery enterprises showed on this CICIE is over ten, twice of that last year. The company of Liu Dong has also reached cooperation intentions with more than 20 enterprises from Chongqing, Yunnan, Zhejiang, and other regions.

Xiushan County has also achieved a lot. It exhibited the bamboo weaving articles, festive lanterns, fancy candles with dragon and phoenix decoration, and brocades of Tujia people on this event. Six enterprises found the market of products, including the decorative candles, promising so much that took the initiative to contact Xiushan County for broadening the sales.

Chances for Chongqing culture to go global

“Visitors see the new achievements of the arts and crafts of Chongqing through Shanshen lacquer, Rongchang pottery, Sanxiaxiu handicrafts, and other exhibits,” Cai Zerong, master of Chinese arts and crafts and Director of Chongqing Industrial Arts Association, expressed, “We ought to communicate and exchange our cultures, and this platform provides a good chance to popularize the history, regional culture, and craftsmanship of Chongqing.”
