SISU Develops Think Tank for People-to-people Exchange in Foreign Service Industry

Chongqing - In recent years, as China’s opening-up keeps extending, the people-to-people exchange has become one of the three major pillars (The other two are strategic mutual trust and economic and trade cooperation) to support the construction of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and the community of shared future for humanity.

On Sep. 18, the Signing and Unveiling Ceremony of Institute of People-to-People Exchange for Foreign Service Industry in the New Land-Sea Corridor was held in Sichuan International Studies University (SISU).

On the Ceremony, China Center for International People-to-People Exchange Ministry of Education, P.R.C (CCIPE) signed an agreement with SISU to jointly build the Institute of People-to-People Exchange for Foreign Service Industry in the New Land-Sea Corridor. Mr. Li Keyong, the President of SISU, and Mr. Du Kewei, the Director of CCIPE, delivered beautiful speeches on the importance of people-to-people exchange and the blueprint for the newly established institute.

China Center for International People-to-People Exchange Ministry of Education, P.R.C (CCIPE) signed an agreement with SISU to jointly build the Institute of People-to-People Exchange for Foreign Service Industry in the New Land-Sea Corridor.

“China's opening-up is to achieve connectivity and mutual benefit. Language and cultural exchange are the foundation of it.” Mr. Li said in his speech.  He continued, “SISU attaches great importance to and supports the construction and development of the Institute by providing a guarantee in policies, funds, and personnel, integrating favorable resources of the school to carry out relevant researches and training.” As the only foreign language university in southwest China, SISU shoulders the responsibility to carry out international strategic and cultural studies, train senior foreign-related professionals, and promote Chongqing's opening-up.  "The Institute will provide professional and comprehensive services for foreign-related enterprises in western China along the Land-Sea Corridor. It will strive to become the think tank for people-to-people exchange in the foreign service industry." Mr. Li said.

Mr. Li Keyong, the President of SISU, delivered a speech at the Signing and Unveiling Ceremony. 

“People-to-people exchange plays a vital role in maintaining relationships among countries, promoting practical cooperation, and fostering friendship among people.” Mr. Du said during the speech. He also pointed out that the institute, based on CCIPE’s advantages in international people-to-people exchange and SISU’s expertise in the training of languages and foreign-related professionals, will empower the development of people-to-people exchange for the foreign service industry.

Mr. Du Kewei, the Director of CCIPE, delivered a speech at the Signing and Unveiling Ceremony.

Mr. Song Guohua, the Dean of SISU Institute for International Affairs, shared his thoughts on the advantages of setting the Institute in SISU. "Chongqing is located at the junction of the Belt and Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt and takes an important position in Land-Sea Corridor. SISU, as a famous foreign language university in China, holds strong expertise in the language. It has pooled together professionals of foreign-related fields and developed the first-class international issues analyzing platform." Mr. Song told iChongqing.

The Institute will provide policy consultation, intellectual support, and resource services for industries and enterprises while they are going global. It will promote the people-to-people exchange in the foreign service industry. It will assist SISU to promote the integrated development of professionals training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance, innovation, and international exchange and cooperation. It will provide theoretical guidance on people-to-people exchange, language, and cross-cultural competency training, consulting services and solutions to development problems, etc. for enterprises in the foreign services industry of New Land-Sea Corridor, meeting the needs of high-quality development of enterprises and enhancing their influence and international competitiveness. The Institute will assist China’s enterprises in the foreign service industry to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative as well as international development.
