A Hungarian Expert’s Happy Life in Chongqing

Chongqing- Dr.Ferenc Hegyi, a Hungarian Palinka (national spirit/wine) expert has been to Chongqing for more than 6 months to do food science research at Southwest University (SWU) for academic exchange as Chongqing-Hungary scientific cooperation. Dr.Ferenc Hegyi is also the 1st International Outstanding Youth at Southwest University. 

In this episode of Chongqing Expat, we will look into the food science expert`s daily life in his lab and witness the Palinka`s distillation process and taste it! It is exciting to see the process from raw material to food production. Dr. Ferenc Hegyi said he loves the life in Chongqing, and like to work with SWU colleagues. According to the interview with Dr. Du Muying, the associate professor with Dr. Ferenc Hegyi, she said “he almost work day and night, from school and home every day and addict to the research of Palinka. Even there is a professional stove in his apartment for the experiment.” 

Dr. Ferenc Hegyi and Associate Professor Du Muying from the "China-Hungary Food Science Cooperative Research Center" team have successfully developed Palinka with 7 different types of fruits including grapefruit, mandarin orange, navel orange, lemon, passion fruit, etc. The Palinka they developed in the laboratory has also served in the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the People's Republic of China. In the celebration, Consul-General of Hungary in Chongqing and the representatives from People's Government of Yuzhong District, Chongqing, have jointly hosted the unveiling ceremony of the sculpture of Petofi Sandor and his lover, Sundari Julia, at the E`ling Park. The Palinka received good comments in this activity.
