According to the municipal traffic work conference 2020 staged on March 25, traffic departments of Sichuan and Chongqing will accelerate the development of traffic integration in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, strive for four one-hour traffic circles and achieve three “integrations”.

The four one-hour traffic circles are designed respectively for megacities in Chengdu and Chongqing, the two cities and major surrounding cities, neighboring cities of the two cities, and metropolitan areas of the two cities. The three “integrations” involve traffic infrastructure network, transport service system and traffic management system.

By 2025, Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will basically form a modern comprehensive traffic system featuring multi-direction radiation, three-dimensional interconnection, and integration and efficiency as planned. It is going to construct the most competitive and influential international traffic hub, with dual cores of Chengdu and Chongqing and multiple layers. By 2035, a modern comprehensive traffic system will form between Sichuan and Chongqing, which faces the whole world, radiates the whole country and leading the west of China.

To attain the goal, traffic departments of Sichuan and Chongqing will follow the thought of “unified planning, integrated connection, connectivity, collaborative management, and co-governance and sharing” in terms of promoting the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. They are also slated to jointly accelerate the construction of the trunk railway network and interprovincial expressway network, and promote the division of labor and cooperation of shipping centers in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Furthermore, they are going to advance regional traffic integration and strive to build the first-rate international multimodal distribution system, first-class international aviation cluster system, first-rate railway hub system and first-class shipping system.
