Chongqing to Implement Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway Widening and Other Traffic Projects

To promote the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and build an integrated transportation system, Chongqing will step up planning to promote a number of major infrastructure projects and build a multi-level "one-hour traffic circle," according to Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Comprehensive Three-dimensional Transportation Network Planning and 14th Five-Year Plan Comprehensive Transport Plan Main Urban Area Symposium held by Chongqing Traffic Bureau on May 8.

"The building of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is not only a major mission assigned by the central government to Chongqing but also a major strategic opportunity for Chongqing's transportation construction," noted one participant. Meanwhile, the 14th Five-Year Plan is also a transition period for China's transportation from "basic adaptation" to "quality improvement and efficiency improvement." For Chongqing, it is still a period of great development in transportation construction. For the main urban area, it is also a critical period for the construction of a one-hour commute circle.

At present, Chongqing's regional transportation connectivity needs to be strengthened, transportation channel capacity needs to be improved, and high-quality transportation development needs to be strengthened. Therefore, it is urgent to build a batch of transportation projects that benefit people's livelihood, improve weak links, and provide excellent services.

To this end, Chongqing's traffic authorities of higher and lower levels are working together to make the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Comprehensive Chongqing Three-dimensional Transportation Network Planning and scientifically plan the five-year traffic construction.

Chongqing's transportation infrastructure construction will focus on strengthening weak links, make efforts on "external connection" and "internal circulation," work hard to ensure multi-directional accesses to Chongqing, improve the regional transportation network, enhance the transportation and logistics hub facilities system, make overall plans to build an international multimodal transport system, and speed up the building of an interconnected, efficient, and modern comprehensive transportation system.

At present, Chongqing is stepping up it's planning to promote a number of major infrastructure projects, including Chengdu-Chongqing expressway widening, Chongqing-Wuhan expressway capacity expansion, and some other ray highway expansion projects, as well as Chengdu-Chongqing Midline High-speed Railway Project, coordinating railway, road, water, and air transportation, striving to commence these projects soon, to better play the strategic, guiding, and the leading role of transportation infrastructure construction.
