Chongqing Designer Won Red Dot Design Award

The Red Dot Design Award, one of the world's three major design awards, is known as the "Oscar" in the design community. On June 22, the work of Zhou Ling, a designer born in the 1980s in Chongqing, stood out from more than 6,500 entries from 60 countries and regions and won the Red Dot Design Award for the interior design. Zhou became the first designer in the 12 provinces in western China to win the award. It is worth noting that only 20 interior design works around the world were awarded this year.

The jury of the award is composed of independent designers, professors, and experts, who review the works one by one and give quality and innovative products with the label "Red Dot." The diverse backgrounds of the judges enable even cross-cultural works to be evaluated and ensure that the results are fair and also make the award become an indicator of global design strategy.

The work submitted by Zhou this time is the decoration design of a flagship store of ceramic tiles in Chongqing. This design broke through the tradition and the convention. The exhibition hall was geometrically shaped with several classic tiles. Zhou said: "The ceramic tile itself should become a part of the space, presenting its material and the culture and history of the enterprise, so that the material of the product can be combined with the corporate culture and history." When the final design was delivered, both Zhou and the client felt delighted.

Last November, Zhou sent the work to Germany to compete with top artists around the world for the Red Dot Design Award. According to the jury, (this work) brings an advanced space concept to the interior design, and the flagship store not only provides information about the products on the shelf but also represents more.

Zhou said that winning the Red Dot Design Award meant that the work of Chongqing designers had once again been recognized in the most demanding and top international competitions. In addition to the Red Dot Design Award, Zhou also won the gold medal of Germany's IF Award and Italy's A 'Design Award.
