Online and Offline Consumption Makes the Chongqing Night Economy Popular Again

From July 1 to July 17, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce and Alipay launch "Chongqing 717 Shopping Spree". There are night fairs at Guanyinqiao and Shiqiaopu Food Street. With 300-plus vendors, the two brightly lit streets are crowded, bustling, and overwhelmed with people's consumption desires.

It is just a microcosm of Chongqing's current night economy. According to the latest data from Meituan Takeaway, the order quantity during night-economy hours (6 pm to 6 am the next day) accounted for over 38% of the total order volume of the day, ranking first in the southwest region. 

Chongqing has witnessed a steady night order growth from March to the present. The night orders in May increased by 68% compared with March, showing strong growth momentum. Meituan's big data show that Chongqing ranks first in China in terms of barbecue takeaways proportion in total night takeaway orders.

Recently, Douyin (Chinese Tik Tok) has seen over 100 million views related to Yihuali Night View Park. There is an increasing number of live streaming in the park against the epidemic. The park's operator also made more promotions for artisans through live streaming and short videos. On Douyin's account "Chongqing Yihuali Craftsmanship," some specialty businesses have been promoted, such as hot pots, meat skewers, and broad beans. "The number of visitors has returned to normal," said the relevant person in charge.

Featured as a cluster area for night cultural tourism consumption, Chongqing yard has achieved growth despite headwinds of the market. "There were at least 70 tables of guests every day in the last month." The owner of the hotpot restaurant in Opera Stage Yard said. Wu Yangwen, the operation director of Chongqing yard, told the reporter, "Two operas are performed every night, and the number of tourists visiting the yard has achieved 90% of that of before."
