Industry and Enterprise Drive Shuanglong Households towards Self-Sufficiency – Vlog 3

Chongqing- In the final installment of our vlog series in Shuanglong Township, we experience the warm hospitality of Mr. He Chengshuang at his 'Ancient Tree' guesthouse, visit a peacock rearing business, and a brand new inn built in anticipation of increased tourist numbers when the modern road network is complete.

During a second visit to the 'Ancient Tree' guesthouse opened and run by the owner Mr. He Chengshuang with the aid of low interest loans, we learn more about the implementation of the 'Two Non-Concerns and Three Guarantees' policy, and how this has formed the basis of a better life. We also watch Mr. He Chengshuang at work as he enthusiastically prepares our group the local variation of Wushan fish.

Formerly impoverished households have a number of signs attached by the main entrance detailing the occupants, structural survey of the building, water quality certification, and local medical practitioners designated for them. At the home of Mr. He Chngshuang, I try an application that allows users to scan a QR code and check detailed information on residents' current state of poverty alleviation.

While we sat in the shade after lunch, another party of guests present that day happened to include a local who rears peacocks for buyers around China. So later that afternoon, we stopped to explore the peacock farm and surroundings in person.

Finally, construction work is ongoing around Shuanglong to complete a modern country road network that will provide a fast and effective link between all the villages. Once this is achieved, journey times from Wushan and beyond will far shorter and more convenient. In anticipation of tourists coming to stay overnight, a new inn has opened that offers visitors an authentic rural setting but with all modern comforts.

Join us in this final vlog from Shuanglong and see how life has changed for the better!

A new inn has opened in Shuanglong for tourists wishing to stay overnight when the country road network is completed later this year, just one example of local enterprise in this formerly impoverished community.
