Zhang Fei Ancient Road Adventure along Wentang Gorge

Chongqing- During the Three Kingdoms Period, it is said the Shu Country general Zhang Fei had a pathway cut along the Wentang Gorge section of the Jialing River as he traveled northwards to Langzhong. Later, in the year 221AD, he was assassinated by two subordinates, who took his head back down the pathway as they defected to the army of Sun Quan.

Recently, the Zhang Fei Ancient Road gained popularity when it was featured in the 2019 Beibei District Showcase, and visitors come to enjoy the natural ecology, river views, waterfalls, open-air springs, Buddhist shrines, country delicacies, and to explore the sleepy village of Baiyangbei.
The pathway stretches for around 3.3 kilometers along the eastern bank of Wentang Gorge in Beibei District and comes to an end with a ferry crossing to the opposite bank at Yangjia Wharf.
In this latest vlog on special travel experiences in Chongqing, James takes you on an adventure through the entire length and sights of the Zhang Fei Ancient Road.

The Zhang Fei Ancient Road offers great views along Wentang Gorge in addition to the natural ecology.
