Chongqing- From Sept. 28 to Oct. 8, starting at 7 p.m. every night, the landmark buildings in downtown Chongqing are to stage a series of light shows to celebrate the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The light shows, themed "China's Safe and Well, (Our) National Dream Fulfilled" and "Families Reunite for Our Motherland," are made of thousands of light-emitting diode (LED) lights decorated on the glass walls of skyscrapers. They are all over Chongqing, such as the World Financial Center in Yuzhong District, the Sheraton Chongqing Hotel in Nanbin Road, the Crown International Twin Tower, and the building complexes in Jiangbeizui CBD and Nan'an bank of the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers.
This year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival happen to be on the same day, extending the usual seven-day compensated holiday to an eight-day "Golden Week" vacation. It's also the country's first long holiday after the ease of domestic COVID-19 outbreak, making it a perfect time for people to take a break from the extended lockdown and travel restriction period.
What's more, the duration of the light show has been extended for two more hours to 11 p.m. every night, according to Wednesday's notice from the municipal urban administration authority, citing "more 'lights' and 'colors' are needed for double festivity."
