Chongqing among China’s Top 20 Night-Time Economy Cities

2020 China Nighttime Economy Forum, sponsored by China Tourism Academy and Wuxi Municipal People's Government, was held in Wuxi, capital of Jiangsu Province, recently. The Academy released the 2020 Top 20 Cities of Nighttime Economy in China at the forum, and Chongqing was included.

Under the theme of Digital Economy and Scenario Creation, the forum attracted over 500 attendees from all over the country, such as representatives of companies and media outlets, experts, and scholars.

Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, delivered a keynote speech: Culture Leads Nighttime Economy, Hosts and Guests Share a Beautiful Life. He said that the nighttime economy should not only satisfy people's basic needs for delicious foods and entertainment facilities but also let culture lead the meeting of people's new demand for a bright life in a moderately prosperous society. Developing a nighttime economy requires consumption scenarios accessible to citizens and visitors, as well as an art-led fashion and cultural environment for building future-oriented tourism competitiveness. It needs government support and social investment to foster market entities and excellent projects. Theoretical innovation, top-down policy design, and extensive and diverse social practices are also necessary.

Qin Dingbo, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, was invited to give a speech named Developing Nighttime Economy in Chongqing: To Build a World-Class Brand of Urban Night Views. He introduced the status quo of the nighttime economy in Chongqing, relevant development measures, and change of night view development focuses, which is to create attractions based on art, cultures, and sound environment.

At the forum, Nighttime Economy Research Group of the China Tourism Academy unveiled "2020 Top 20 Cities of Nighttime Economy in China," "2020 Top 10 Welcomed Night Markets," "2020 Top 10 Welcomed Night Performances," "2020 Top 10 Welcomed Night Business Circles," and "2020 Top 10 Welcomed Night Scenic Areas." These lists were developed under the technical support from the key laboratories of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which offered tourism data and monitoring system, and through professional data monitoring, analysis, processing, and modeling. Chongqing was included in the "2020 Top 20 Cities of Nighttime Economy in China" and Hongyadong "2020 Top 10 Welcomed Night Markets."
