‘Garden Marathon’: 3rd Bishan International Half Marathon to Scale down Size

Chongqing- The 2020 Chongqing Bishan International Half Marathon, whose racecourse snakes around a dozen characteristic parks and gardens, is on track to take place on the morning of Nov. 29, according to a press briefing of the organizing committee on Tuesday.

The 2020 Chongqing Bishan Half Marathon will kick off on Nov. 29, 2020.

The half marathon first initiated back in 2018 has proven to be an extremely popular event among locals and people from afar. It attracted a total of 16,985 professional and amateur runners to signed up and participated in its last two editions, and has been awarded the “Bronze Medal Match” and “Natural and Ecological Match” honors by the Chinese Athletics Association in October this year.

According to the organizing committee, this year’s event will scale down from the planed 15,000 participants to only 5,000 runners, citing reasons of regular COVID-19 control and prevention measures. “However, this restriction won’t affect the quality of the competition, we will still benchmark the event to a ‘golden medal match’ standard.”

Not only will the Chinese Athletics Association be highly involved in the technical certification of the event, but national-level professional judges will also join the panel to ensure a just and impartial match. What’s more, the adoption of an internationally certified timing system and syncing microchips are also expected to contribute to the successful unfolding of the event.

As for logistic support, a lot of well-trained volunteers and dedicated onsite medical personnel will provide timely and orderly help to those in need during the whole span of the event. Registered runners can also join the preparation camp beforehand and receive personalized guidance and instructions from professional trainers to improve their training scheme and performance records.

The race course winds through the various parks and landmark buildings such as the People’s Square, the Xiuhu Park, the Shuwang Park, the Fengxianghu Children’s Park, and the Dongyue Sports Park. You might even get the impression that you are not running a half marathon but actually taking a stroll within a park. Nowadays, this has become a distinctive feature of the Bishan International Half Marathon, allowing runners to put on their best performance possible and to enjoy the beautiful sceneries alongside at the same time.

An expo will also be held from Nov. 27 to 28, which features the various kinds of creative cultural products and Bishan’s local delicacies, to let more people learn about the district’s unique history and tourism resources.
