Chongqing Rural Beauty Show: Blending Modernity and Antiquity in Dazu

Chongqing - The trend-making variety TV program, Chongqing Rural Beauty Show, has moved onto its 5th episode, which features the "bridgehead" district of Dazu in west Chongqing and to the east of Sichuan Basin. The episode was aired during the prime time of the CQTV channel on Dec. 19 and made quite a buzz on the internet.

Dazu, which literally means "large and plentiful" in Chinese, has been increasingly known in both China and the world for its UNESCO world heritage site and national AAAAA tourist spot Dazu Rock Carvings. But there's much more to this blessed land than just rock carvings, and that's exactly what this episode of Chongqing Rural Beauty Show intends to tell the world.

Joining the team to explore the "cultures" and "technologies" in Dazu are host Huang Jiadi, as well as the other guest experiences such as idol singer Wang Beiche, and a dash-looking German expat who calls himself Baozi.

The "cultures" part vividly displayed the unique cultural, artistic, and historical deposits of thousands of years of Chinese agricultural civilization, especially the Dazu Rock Carvings, which was viewed as a time tunnel linking the past and the future.

The "technologies" part brought the latest developments and achievements of Dazu in modern agriculture. Rice study, outer space cultivation, and "weeds eugenics...," these are the hard-core weapons of Dazu in developing modern agriculture and biotechnologies.

Behind the "large and plentiful" connotation are the double implications of material abundance and spiritual sufficiency, which gave rise to the total transformation and upgrading of the countryside outlook in Dazu. People's livelihoods have been greatly improved and are making high strides in the nationwide movement of building a moderately prosperous society.

The production team brought under the spotlight the semi-virtual reality (VR) technologies that restored the beauties of rock carvings passed on from thousands of years ago, the specially cultivated Dazu Lotus using outer space technologies, and the new irrigation water system behind Dazu's modern agriculture landscape.

What's more, the "orange brothers" who gave up high salaries in the city and dedicated to developing tech-intensive specialty orchard, as well as commentator Gong Li who has been devoted to preserving and popularizing the messages behind Dazu Rock Carvings, competed with each other for the honor of "Spokesperson for Chongqing Rural Beauty Show." The results were announced at the end of this episode, don't forget to tune in or watch the rerun at CQTV.
