Podcast ②∣Keywords to Understand China

In the podcast ②, Mikkel from iChongqing will help you understand some of the main targets for China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. If you've watched the previous episode, you should have heard the 14th Five-Year plan a couple of times. So let him start today by explaining that first.

14th Five-Year Plan

The 14th Five-Year Plan refers to the first five years of a new journey of building a modern socialist country in all aspects. China’s development is still in a phase where there are a lot of important strategic decisions to be made, and at the onset of this plan, China has to account for new developments and changes, as well as opportunities and challenges.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. Therefore, the Two Sessions this year holds even more importance than usual. Standing at a new historical starting point, how will China start its 14th Five-Year Plan in a good way. These answers are found in the keywords that we are going through now.

A Healthy China

China aims to make efforts to build a healthy society. To do this, China aims to develop a strong public health system, carry out extensive fitness activities and raise the average life expectancy by one year.

The establishment of a healthy China will make the population live longer and healthier, which will become a driving force in China’s development and social progress.

Social Security

Social Security coverage is expected to reach 95 percent of the population by improving the multi-tiered social security system and basic pension insurance coverage. Social assistance and charity systems will also be optimized for greater coverage and effect.

China will continue to improve social security systems and strive for its people's wellbeing to safeguard the people’s essential needs.

The Two Sessions is still ongoing, and we have more episodes coming that will outline more keywords from the Two Sessions Meeting and China’s 14th Five-year Plan.
