This year's first director scheduling meeting of the joint office for promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle deliberated and approved that the two cities will cooperate to implement 67 major projects with a total investment of 1.57 trillion yuan (about 242.4 billion U.S. dollars) and an annual planned investment of 101.6 billion yuan in 2021.
Among them, there are 24 comprehensive transportation system projects with a total investment of 491.7 billion yuan and an annual planned investment of 26.7 billion yuan.
Specifically, the Second Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway and the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway aim to build the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle on the track and improve the connectivity of adjacent areas between Sichuan and Chongqing.
A total of 11 projects, including the Jialing River Lize Shipping Hub, will center on the goal of building a shipping hub on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River to continuously improve the navigation capacity of the golden waterway.
Meanwhile, there are 23 modern industrial system projects with a total investment of 269.8 billion yuan and an annual planned investment of 18 billion yuan.
This includes projects like Western Chongqing Electronic and Circuit Industrial Park and Dazhu Sichuan-Chongqing Cooperation Industrial Park, which focus on the construction of the industrial systems for high-quality development and highlight the industrial cooperation between Sichuan and Chongqing.
Through the co-construction of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, Sichuan and Chongqing jointly initiated five sci-tech innovation projects. The projects will meet the actual development needs and bring new opportunities for sci-tech innovation, talent reserve and industrial cluster.
For the 67 major projects jointly launched by Sichuan and Chongqing this year, the number of projects, total investment, and annual planned investment are respectively 2.2 times, 2.8 times, and 2.6 times that of 2020, said a relevant official at Chongqing Development and Reform Commission.
The scale has risen to a higher level, where the investment in infrastructure and industrial ones accounts for 77.2% and 17.2% of the total respectively, among the major projects.
