‘We Make Bridges Part of the Landscape in Chongqing’ – T.Y. Lin Engineer Tiger Chen

Chongqing- In less than a century, Chongqing has become the bridge capital of China. The achievement shows a joint effort of the government, enterprises, and individuals.

T.Y. Lin International Group is a world-renowned engineering consulting group leading in the field of bridges and transportation infrastructure.

Founded in 1954, the group is headquartered in San Francisco, with major institutions based in the United States, Southeast Asia, and China.

T.Y. Lin International China was established in Chongqing in 1994 and was among the first batch of Class A Chinese-foreign joint venture design enterprises approved by the Chinese government.

In China, the group mainly engages in the integrated design and consultation process of urban infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, tracks, ecological environment, and transport-orientated development.

The Caiyuanba, Shibanpo, Jiayue, and Liangjiang bridges of Chongqing designed by T.Y. Lin have won the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize on respective occasions.

Chen (Tiger) Xiaohu Ph.D. is a senior engineer and director of the academician studio of T.Y. Lin International Engineering Consulting (China).

In an exclusive interview with iChongqing, he shared the design inspiration he gained during his years studying in Maryland, the design concepts and unique features of bridges in Chongqing, and his take on the direction of future bridge construction.
