4.32 Million Tourists Visited Chongqing during the Mid-Autumn Holiday

Under proper Covid-19 prevention and control, the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival sees a steady recovery in Southwest China of Chongqing. On September 21, data from the Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development showed that Chongqing's A-level scenic spots received 4.32 million tourists during the three-day holidays this year, increasing 2.3% from last year, while the overall income reached 7.1 billion Yuan, with a yearly increase of 9.8%.

During this Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Chongqing’s major shopping districts and key monitoring trade enterprises achieved retail sales of 7.14 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8% year on year. All districts and counties, major shopping districts, and major trade and retail enterprises relying on the 2021 National Consumption Promotion "Aishang Chongqing" activities to carry out rich content and various forms of promotional activities in accordance with local conditions, promoting steady growth in consumption. Chongqing Department Store (New Century) Supermarket launched a mid-autumn festival promotion with a discount of up to 65% off. Yonghui Supermarket launched online promotions "Mid-Autumn Shopping Carnival" in the mobile phone application.

Wanda Plaza and other merchants held various promotion activities, providing one-stop services for "food, entertainment, and shopping", which led to a concentrated release of residents' consumption enthusiasm. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, citizens and tourists were enthusiastic about traveling to the countryside, and rural tourism was highly sought after by young people. According to monitoring data, during the festival, the city's key accommodation and catering enterprises' turnover increased by 18.1% year on year.

Besides, various activities were held, including making glutinous rice cakes, moon cakes, lanterns, and gala for the full moon day. For example, Beibei District held "Our Festival-Mid-Autumn Festival" intangible cultural heritage project exhibition, "Poetic Mid-Autumn Festival" family theme activities, "Herald of the New Era - May 4 Movement Photo Exhibition", "Grateful for the New Era • Towards the New Journey-"Our Better Life" Rural Village Evening." The Jiangjin District held the New Cultural Tourism Festival, Zhongshan Honey Picking Festival, Little Windmill Rice Field Concert, and Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival. "Picture Book Reading-"Happy Mid-Autumn Festival"; 2021 Chinese Farmers Harvest Festival and Meixin Wine Town Golden Autumn Consumption Season were held in Fuling District. The 3rd National Chaozhou Cultural Festival was held in Jinfo Mountain Scenic Area, while the Black Mountain International Light and Shadow Art Festival were held in the Wansheng Economic Development Zone.

A happy and reunion festive atmosphere comes along under the full moon, promoting consumption during the long weekend holiday. Data shows that during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival, urban tourism in Chongqing continued to be popular. Hongyadong received 149,000 tourists, Ciqikou Ancient Town received 76,300 tourists, and the occupancy rate of Beibei accommodation (Airbnb and homestay) reached 100%. In the meantime, rural tourism is very popular also. Fuling Meixin Red Wine Town received 120,000 tourists, Nanchuan Ecological Garden received 95,000 tourists, and Changshou Lake Tourist Area received 84,000.

In addition, 43 public libraries and 41 cultural centers in the city were open for free, with 639,000 visitors and 760,000 online services. Various Mid-Autumn festival cultural activities were carried out in Nan'an District, Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, and the Chongqing Library attracted more than 200,000 people to participate. The city's museums received approximately 36,000 visitors, and city-level professional art units displayed 16 performances, attracting 3285 audiences. During the festival, all scenic city spots and cultural venues strictly followed the limited flow of the population's reservation requirements to implement COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures. Overall, the tourism market ran stable during the short holiday.
