The Chongqing- Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Chengdu was established in 2006. It focuses on strengthening links and communication between Hong Kong and Sichuan, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Qinghai, Chongqing Municipality, and the Xizang Autonomous Region in western China. Given Chongqing's prominent position in west China, the Government of Hong Kong SAR set up Chongqing Liaison Office in January 2012, attached to the office in Chengdu.
The offices in Chengdu and Chongqing aim to promote exchanges and cooperation between these regions and Hong Kong in economic, trade, and other areas, deepen the understanding of Hong Kong in mainland China, and provide assistance to Hong Kong citizens who live in these regions.
“The crossover effect of the two places is getting more and more apparent,” said Li Wan-in, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu. She noticed that after the announcement of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, there was more cooperation, and both sides were committed to breaking the ice.
Hong Kong SAR and Sichuan Province have a high-level cooperation platform already, which was established in 2018. “We hope that this kind of cooperation is not just confined to Sichuan but also extends to Chongqing,” said Li. As a major city in the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong enterprises value this opportunity seriously. They are looking forward to more interactions with Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. The representative offices of the Hong Kong government in the western part of China will make a lot of effort to promote these exchanges.
