Kadar Gergely: Hungary Urges a Greater Cooperation with China

On Nov.30, Kadar Gergely, Hungarian Consul-General in Chongqing, accepted iChongqing's exclusive interview and shared his views on the potential cooperation between Hungary and Chongqing.

China during the pandemic

He was in Chongqing in 2020 and witnessed the whole process of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. When recalling China's response during the pandemic, he said that people from the two countries assisted each other. They invited Chongqing's specialists and doctors to share their anti-pandemic experience in a research seminar. "That was very helpful for us. Overall, my life is barely influenced by the virus in Chongqing now."

Technological cooperation

Mr. Gergely addressed the importance of technical cooperation between Chongqing and Hungary, "We are fully supportive and constantly promoting the cooperation between two sides in terms of science and technology, whether it is China's technological companies coming to Hungary for development, or Hungary's (experts) to China."

After visiting Western China (Chongqing) Science City, he expressed expectations for future technological exchanges with Chongqing. In particular, he noted the food research center jointly organized by Southwest University and Hungary, which have accumulated a lot of research achievements in food science.

Cultural exchange

The Consul-General introduced the Budapest Autumn Festival when talking about cultural exchanges held in Chongqing. He said, "This year, Hungary has introduced many Hungarian painters, glass sculptors, and other artists to Chongqing. In the past few weeks, we have prepared piano performances of works from the well-known pianist-Liszt and a series of international piano competitions; what's more, we will also bring Hungarian folk customs to Chinese children and promote traditional Hungarian festivals to the public."

Chongqing in his eyes

Kadar Gergely has personally built a deep bond with Chongqing after living for three years and starting a family here. "I love the mountains and forests in this city, and I go hiking in Nan Mountain, Gele Mountain, and JinYun Mountain almost every weekend. Living here is very comfortable, with the scenery of both modern city and nature," he said.
