Natural History Museum: Carbon Neutral Science Exhibition for Teenagers

Recently, Chongqing Natural History Museum launched the Building a Zero-Carbon Future — "Carbon Neutral" Theme Science Exhibition in Hunan Province. The exhibition has been selected into the "National Tour of High-quality Theme Exhibitions of National Science Popularization Day," guided by the Department of Science Popularization of the China Association for Science and Technology and organized by the China Science and Technology Museum.

With the background of ecological conservation of "green, recycling and low-carbon development," this exhibition prioritizes the grand vision and goal of "Building a Zero-Carbon Future." It aims to enhance the public's understanding of the crises and challenges caused by climate change, as well as the profound connotation and significance of carbon neutrality, advocate energy-saving, emission-reducing, green and low-carbon lifestyle, and cultivate ecological and environmental protection awareness, to make concerted efforts to build earth into an eco-friendly community.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Chongqing Natural History Museum, the exhibition aims to combine science popularization, artistry, fun, and education. It has set up multiple interactive exhibition items, including "interactive experience": garbage sorting games, carbon-reducing interactive cycling, and children's sand painting; "science and technology exhibition": biodegradable raw materials, renewable daily necessities, and new energy model display; "future vision": 3D-printed beef and carbon dioxide recycling; and art installations made of discarded materials such as pens, CDs, lenses and plastics. A range of exciting projects and eye-catching scenes enhance the audience's sense of participation and bring them an in-depth experience of zero-carbon life.

In addition to attention-grabbing activities, the exhibition also includes a "green travel, low-carbon, and environmental protection" science popularization lecture. The lecture explains in an easy-to-understand approach how to save energy and reduce emissions in our lives to achieve carbon neutrality, spread scientific culture to and improve the public's scientific, cultural literacy, especially teenagers. In addition, science popularization instructors guide teenagers to experience green life by making solar lamps and solar fans with waste materials such as mineral water bottle caps and paper cups.

Chongqing Natural History Museum, as a public welfare cultural education venue and a science popularization base, will promote the core values of Chinese socialism through providing science popularization education services. After the Hunan tour, the Building a Zero-Carbon Future — "Carbon Neutral" Theme Science Exhibition will also be staged in science and technology venues in Shandong, Hebei, Jiangsu, and other places to enhance people's scientific, cultural literacy.
