Chongqing: A New Chapter in Mega Transportation

Chongqing- Xiaokang Shehui, a very popular phrase in China, means "a well-off society," or "a society in which people lead a fairly comfortable life." It's highly recognized that China's transportation infrastructure has paved the way to the goal, literally and practically. It is the strong support of building a well-off society in all respects.

In 2021, China announced that it has completed the building of a well-off society in all respects, and in the next 15 years, China will work towards this goal, which is to achieve modernization. As an international comprehensive transportation hub in Southwest China, Chongqing recently released its Transportation Planning Outline for 2021-2035.

According to current statistics, 80% of the districts and counties in Chongqing are connected with railways, 97% with highways, and 75% with waterways, and the airports cover 95% of the population within 100 KM. Meanwhile, the accessible rural roads reach every village.

As an international logistic hub, to the East, through the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Chongqing is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Yangtze River Golden Waterway; to the South, it is closely linked with ASEAN countries and Singapore through the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor; to the West, the city connects with Europe and Central Asia through the China Railway Express, and towards Northeast Asia via the Economic Corridor of China, Mongolia and Russia to the north.

In the municipality's Transportation Planning Outline, a hugely comprehensive and multidimensional transport network is blueprinted, which consists of 8,900 KM of high-speed railways and inner-city subways, 225,000 KM of roads, 4,500 KM of waterways, more feeder airports, as well as a massive postal express network.

The plan aims to set up a transportation system with 1 hour to commute within the municipality, two hours to arrive within city clusters, and three hours to reach major domestic cities. With only one day to deliver express packages within China, two days to surrounding countries, and three days to major global cities, Chongqingers can really "enjoy traveling and the efficient delivery of goods" in the following years.
