2022 Russian Film Collection Exhibition Poised to Open in Chongqing

The 2022 Russian Film Collection Exhibition in Chongqing will be held from April 8 to 17 at CGV Cinemas Chongqing Chayuan Branch, Chongqing Yuanzhu Branch, Raffles City Chongqing, and Chongqing Longfor U City.

The exhibition will show six classic Russian films; namely, I am Cuba, Stalker, Carnival Night, Russian Ark, The Ascent, and The Messenger Boy, covering a variety of genres such as comedy, science fiction, musical, and romantics.

The versions of the six films to be screened this time are digitally-repaired copies with embedded Chinese subtitles. This will bring a more vivid visual enjoyment to the audience while maintaining the classic content of the original versions. It will allow audiences to appreciate the peak of Russian art cinema and Russian culture.

The Russian Ark, directed by Aleksandr Sokurov, tells the story of a contemporary filmmaker and a French diplomat from the 19th century. They find themselves in an ancient palace in St. Petersburg, completely invisible to everyone around them.

The two wander around the palace together. They witness the furious Peter the Great whipping the General, the private life of Queen Catherine, the last supper of the last czar's family on the eve of the revolution, and the last glorious and grand court ball in 1913.
