The Germplasm Creation Science Center, located in the Western (Chongqing) Science City, is like a magical animal and plant factory. Silkworm babies eat bread instead of mulberry leaves, artemisia seedlings grow in the nutrient solution, and each seedling has its room. 

At the beginning of this year, Chongqing launched the Germplasm Creation Science Center as one of the five professional platforms supporting service breeding innovation by the state. In four months, the center has rolled out germplasm creation work of silkworm, poplar, and artemisia annua. It will research the creation of canola, rice, citrus, and other species.

"The report of the 6th CPC Chongqing Municipal Congress mentioned that Chongqing will achieve a 'significant improvement in scientific and educational strength' in the future, which greatly encouraged scientific researchers," said Professor Xia Qingyou, chief scientist of the Germplasm Creation Science Center and director of the Biological Science Research Center of Southwest University.

"We will use advanced biological breeding technology to breed new varieties of important and characteristic species and strive to build a characteristic germplasm resource bank (nursery) in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River within 5-10 years," said Xia.

New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor

On May 28, a train from Jiangjin of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) loaded with 90 containers was dispatched from the Xiaonanya Railway Logistics Center and bound for Qinzhou Port, Guangxi. One thousand two hundred tons of chemical raw materials will be exported to Bahrain by sea from the Beibu Gulf.

"The report of the 6th CPC Chongqing Municipal Congress addressed that Chongqing will accelerate the formation of a strategic hub for the joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the ILSTC, and drive opening up in the western region, gives us full confidence in future development," said Jiangjin Yuan Li, director of the Management Committee of Jiangjin Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

Jiangjin is one of the first districts in Chongqing to integrate into the construction of the ILSTC. The Xiaonanya Railway Logistics Center has operated at least four ILSTC trains to transport goods from the southwestern region overseas in the past two days. Up to now, the total number of trains from Jiangjin has exceeded 500.

Join hands with Tianfu New Area

On the morning of May 28, Li Jianbin, director of the Economic Operation Bureau of Liangjiang New Area and executive deputy director of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle Office, came to the office early to study how to open up further the industrial chain and supply chain of the Liangjiang New Area and Tianfu New Area.

In April last year, focusing on constructing the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, Liangjiang New Area and Tianfu New Area established eight industrial alliances, including automobile manufacturing, electronic information, and scientific and technological innovation. Nearly 500 enterprises have joined the coalition, and the exchanges between enterprises in the two places have become more frequent and closer.

"The 6th CPC Chongqing Municipal Congress report pointed out that we should 'strive to write a new chapter in constructing the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle,' and its specific goals have clarified the direction for us," said Li. The construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is a critical mission and a powerful engine for Chongqing to build socialist modernization. As a member of the Communist Party, he feels deeply responsible for this mission.
