During the summer of 2022, global temperatures were relatively high. Western Europe, Southern Europe, and the United States have experienced record-breaking temperatures.
For example, France, Italy, Spain, and other European countries have encountered an extreme drought crisis due to continuous high temperatures and lack of rain.
Even the Netherlands, the "water conservancy kingdom" focusing on flood control for hundreds of years, also declared that the national water level had reached a historical low. Large-scale wildfires have occurred in countries such as France, Portugal, Spain, and Croatia due to long-term high temperatures and low rainfall.
Since July, the southern part of China has experienced rare and sustained high temperatures and scant rain. The average precipitation in the Yangtze River Basin was 160.3 mm, 50.4% lower than the same period of the previous year and the lowest in the same period in history since 1961.
Since July, the average number of high-temperature days in the Yangtze River Basin has been 32.5 days, which remained the most during the same period since complete meteorological observation records began in 1961; most of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, eastern Sichuan, Chongqing, and other places have experienced more than 35 high-temperature days.
