Amazon Set up a Special Exhibition for Chongqing Fine Products

Chongqing- The largest eCommerce retailer Amazon held its brand summit in Southwest China's Chongqing on October 28, opening a new journey to boost the development of Chongqing's export cross-border e-commerce business.

Owned by Amazon, the second largest enterprise in Fortune 500 this year, Amazon Global Selling is dedicated to helping global enterprises develop export cross-border e-commerce business, expand global markets, build international brands, and serve Amazon's global consumers, enterprises, and institutional buyers.

This brand summit invited leaders and seller service teams from multiple business departments of Amazon to introduce the global cross-border e-commerce development regions, with the content involving foreign trade enterprises' upgrading and transformation, business-to-business (B2B) enterprise purchase, seller journey, service provider network (SPN), logistics, and others.

To target sellers in western China and expand its services nationwide, Amazon set up a regional office in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in 2021. A representative of Amazon said it would actively communicate with governments and enterprises in Chongqing to help brands go global.

Amazon will also promote the upgrading and transformation of traditional enterprises in the fields like auto and motorcycle parts, general machinery, hardware tools, glasses, furniture, clothing, shoes, and hats, using the cross-border e-commerce model to expand overseas markets.

"This is the first official meeting of Amazon's Global Selling team in Chongqing, and we can finally establish direct communication and contact with Amazon," said a participating enterprise. "Hopefully, more and more official activities will be held in Chongqing so local sellers can exchange what they need and grow together in the cross-border e-commerce development, like sellers in east and south China."

Besides the summit, Amazon set up a special exhibition area for Chongqing fine products to display the goods sold in Amazon by local sellers, including a global high-performance modified car accessories brand exported to North America and Europe named MAXPEEDINGRODS, an integrated outdoor helmet for cycling, a food bowl with anti-choking function for pets, ice hammers made of materials meeting foreign food safety requirements, etc.

Promoting the featured industrial products overseas

Traditional foreign trade has been hit strongly by the COVID-19 pandemic. In contrast, cross-border e-commerce has become a significant channel for two-way trade cooperation between China and foreign countries. The national plan also set a target to increase the proportion of foreign trade in new formats like cross-border e-commerce to 10% by 2025. 

By February 2022, China had established 132 comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce, which has covered the whole country and formed a development pattern through links running eastward and westward across land and over the sea. The scale of cross-border e-commerce has reached 15 trillion yuan, becoming a substantial force in promoting foreign trade growth.

As a key increment in the trade's transformation and development, Chongqing is creating a new business format dominated by the local manufacturing industry to promote the featured industrial products overseas. In 2021, the scale of cross-border e-commerce in Chongqing reached 32.21 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 63.3%.

We believe that, with government support, the continuous introduction of guiding policies will help Chinese brands go global, and the localized services provided by Amazon will help Chinese enterprises to expand the international markets, said a representative of Amazon.
