CHONGQING - Civil aviation in Chongqing showed a strong recovery during the Spring Festival holiday since China's COVID policies were adjusted last December.
Spring Festival is the first long vacation (seven-day holiday) after last December when China started to adjust the COVID restrictions and recovered the free movement of public transportation.
On January 28, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport reported to take off and land 5,166 flights, which carried about 767,200 passenger trips during the Spring Festival holiday (January 21 to January 27), respectively growing by 13.17% and 41.88%.
With international flights resuming, the airport reported increasing inbound and outbound passengers. The highest international traffic in a day was close to 1,000. Spain, the UAE, Singapore, and Macao Special Administrative Region were the most popular overseas destinations departing from Chongqing.

To meet the sharply rising demand for public transportation, the airport has cooperated with the city and the train station to realize the "zero-transfer," which means providing easy access for passengers to get boarding passes, baggage check-in, and shuttle service outside the airport.
Meanwhile, road transportation in Chongqing met a steady recovery. The total highway traffic number during the holiday was 13.08 million. According to the Chongqing Expressway Group Co. Ltd, the average daily number was 1.87 million, up 5.2% year-on-year.
The data from Trip.com, one of China's largest online travel service companies, showed that China's overseas online orders increased by 640% during the Spring Festival holiday.
Especially, Southeast Asian countries became the most popular destinations, among which the plane tickets to Bali increased by about 3000%, to Singapore increased by nearly 800%, and to Bangkok increased by over 400%.
