The fourteenth National People's Congress opened its first session on March 5 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Premier Li Keqiang delivered the Government Work Report to the national legislature for deliberation.

The buzzword of the day is “Government Work Report”.

The past five years for China have been truly momentous and remarkable as the country has met numerous tests and made major achievements in economic and social development, according to the government work report.

The government work report lays out the main targets for 2023. China’s GDP growth is around five percent for 2023 with intensified and more targeted macroeconomic policies to promote stable economic growth. 

China targets an inflation rate or increases in the consumer price index of around three percent and the deficit-to-GDP ratio is projected at three percent. 

China aims to create around 12 million urban jobs and targets a surveyed urban unemployment rate of around 5.5 percent. China aims to keep the grain output over 650 million tonnes in 2023.

The government work report also introduced the fiscal and monetary policy, and the economic and social policy, as well as the policies on Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan and the policies on diplomacy and military.
