Located in Chongqing's Yuzhong District, Datianwan Stadium is the first Class A stadium built after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Construction began in 1951 and was completed in 1956. The stadium spans approximately 120,000 square meters, featuring a standard soccer field, a 400-meter synthetic track, and seating for 45,000 spectators.
Over the last century, Datianwan Stadium served as Chongqing's primary venue for sports and cultural events. It has been home to Chongqing soccer clubs, and many Hong Kong pop stars held concerts there in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Since 2005, Datianwan Stadium has transitioned to a community sports facility and no longer hosts significant competitions. In 2009, the Chongqing Municipal Government designated it as a municipal emergency shelter and a municipal cultural relic protection building.
In December 2019, the Datianwan Stadium Protection and Utilization Project was initiated to reinforce, restore, and protect the building, extending its service life and preserving the heritage structure.
Following the renovation, Datianwan Stadium now boasts a standard athletic field with seating for 23,200 spectators. A new underground parking lot with 780 spaces has been added, along with an outdoor ecological sports park featuring five basketball courts, two tennis courts, one volleyball court, eight table tennis courts, eight ground parking spaces, and a swimming pool.
Visitors can reserve access to the field and courts in advance through the WeChat of Datianwan Fitness Center.
