Chongqing - Yunyang County in Chongqing Municipality introduced their new dinosaur intellectual property (IP) characters “Longbao” and “Guaimei” at a press conference on September 22.
The newly launched characters are inspired by the most iconic new species of dinosaurs from the Xintiangou dinosaur community: the Pu’an Yunyang Dragon and the Modaoxi Three Gorges Dragon.
Representing strength and resilience, “Longbao” complements “Guaimei,” who embodies the spirit of innovative exploration. Together, they capture the ambitious spirit of the Yunyang community.
Yunyang has established two industrial companies focusing on dinosaur simulation models and cultural tourism equipment. Plush toys featuring these two characters are already produced and will soon be available for purchase.

Yunyang has become the most important dinosaur cultural center in the Yangtze River Basin, drawing national and international attention. It not only preserves the largest single Jurassic dinosaur fossil wall in the world so far but also has the “Chongqing Yunyang Xintiangou Formation Dinosaur Fauna,” which represents an important stage of the world’s dinosaur evolution.
The Jurassic Fossil Wall is a milestone in the discovery of paleontology in the Yangtze River Basin, and it is also the representative of the largest, most diverse, and most scientifically valuable dinosaur fossils in the Yangtze River Basin.
According to Li Maotao, County Mayor of Yunyang County People’s Government, when the Chinese Academy of Sciences noted the dinosaur fossil group in Yunyang, the researchers praised its large age span, dense distribution, and the wide variety of fossils found. This is also a significant discovery in the dinosaur research field throughout China and worldwide.
In July 2021, Yunyang introduced the Chongqing Jurassic Science Base. Today, two major tourist attractions, the Dinosaur Museum and the Dinosaur Fossil Site Museum, are under construction and are slated for completion by September 28 of next year.
The Dinosaur Museum will feature five immersive exhibition areas that use multimedia interactions and panoramic experiences to guide visitors through the dinosaur era.
The Dinosaur Fossil Site Museum has three primary sections: relics exhibition, platform exhibition, and dinosaur restoration. The museum aims to provide a comprehensive, three-dimensional view of the fossils using mounted models and reconstructed life scenes, making it ideal for scientific research, teaching, and interactive family visits.
Additionally, Yunyang County is accelerating the planning for other attractions, including Jurassic Street, Jurassic Movie Museum, and specialized museums for various dinosaur species such as Velociraptor. These developments are part of the county’s broader strategy to establish itself as the world’s dinosaur capital.
