Chongqing Launches Over 1,000 Diverse Activities for Chinese New Year

Chongqing - As the Chinese New Year approaches, Chongqing is set to host a series of exciting cultural and tourism events from January 18th to March 11th under the theme of Joyful Chinese New Year. The festivities include over 1,000 diverse activities across seven categories.

The Intangible Heritage Chinese New Year segment focuses on preserving and practicing intangible cultural heritage, with over 30 planned activities. The Culture Into Every Home – Hometown Year Live Streaming initiative encourages cultural heritage institutions, inheritors, and netizens to capture Chinese New Year traditions on camera.

Under the Spring Into Every Home category, more than 500 cultural activities will take place. Each district's cultural and tourism committees will collaborate with new media platforms to showcase local Spring Festival events, expanding their reach from regional celebrations to citywide and even nationwide audiences.

The Tourism Welcomes Spring Leisurely section emphasizes tourism, leisure, and sightseeing, featuring over 60 activities. District cultural and tourism committees and tourist sites will organize various promotions such as winter tourism, hot spring tours, exploring hometown treasures, and celebrating the new year with local customs.

The Happy New Year for Enterprises and People category has planned more than 80 activities to meet the cultural and tourism consumption demands during the Spring Festival. Cultural and tourism institutions across the city will introduce preferential measures, launching the Chongqing Cultural Tourism Consumer Season and initiating the Happiness for Eating, Staying, and Traveling campaign.

The Celebrate New Year in Museums section will focus on cultural tourism exhibitions, presenting over 60 activities. Cultural institutions, libraries, and intangible heritage museums will host museum-based New Year activities, offering themed exhibitions, diverse traditional experiences, and reading events to create a unique cultural atmosphere.

Additionally, the Joyful Chinese New Year is a cultural exchange brand created by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism over the past two decades. In 2024, the celebrations will extend to over 70 countries and regions with more than 400 diverse exchange activities. Chongqing will participate in the 2024 China-France Cultural Tourism Year and showcase the "Ethnic Customs of Southwest China" as part of the cultural exchange. Moreover, Chongqing will conduct artistic performances, intangible heritage exhibitions, and tourism promotions in the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
