Chongqing’s Trendy Scene Grows: 21 New Hotspots as Youth Embrace ‘Neo-Chinese,’ ‘Dopamine’ Lifestyles

Chongqing - Chongqing, a vibrant cultural and innovative hub, has seen a surge in trendy dining, entertainment, and leisure spots, as reported in Meituan M Cháo's latest Spring/Summer 2024 guide, China's leading aggregator of stylish venues.

The city has expanded to 77 locations with 21 new spots, emphasizing specialty dining, drinks, and leisure venues.

The surge in trendy spots mirrors a larger trend among younger generations favoring experiences linked to "Neo-Chinese style," "micro-vacation," and "dopamine." Meituan Dianping data shows a significant growth in these consumer activities, with "Neo-Chinese style" mentions doubling and "micro-vacation" discussions increasing by over 70% year-on-year.

The "micro-vacation" trend emphasizes quick, revitalizing getaways amid hectic routines, offering a chance to unwind and explore urban culture. Paired with the "dopamine" trend, which prioritizes enjoyable experiences, these shifts reflect a growing interest in balancing work, leisure, and cultural engagement in everyday life.

Some trending "dopamine" lifestyle activities include different sports-themed venues known for offering adrenaline-pumping experiences. These spots feature activities such as go-karting, rock climbing, archery, curling, paddleboard surfing, and forest stream trails, providing opportunities for excitement and joy.

Tang Lu, a student in Chongqing, shared her enthusiasm for these trendy spots. "After trying go-karting through M Cháo, I've embraced the thrill of speed and passion. It's a joy to visit my favorite sports venue whenever I can to enjoy what I love," she said.
