Chongqing - On August 2, Chongqing's new energy vehicle promotion and trade-in program launched its second phase in Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County. The program showcased over 150 vehicles and offered incentives for electric vehicles and motorcycles.
"In the first half of the year, Pengshui County‘s regional GDP growth rate ranked second in the city and continued to lead in southeastern Chongqing," said Chen Changhua, Deputy County Mayor of Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County People's Government.
Chen added that the event aims to meet local people's needs for a better life and help the old-for-new consumer goods program achieve more significant results.
Themed "Green, Low-Carbon, Smart, Safe - Empowering New Lifestyles, Enjoying New Mobility," the event provided various incentives. For qualifying electric vehicle purchases, consumers can receive up to 20,000 yuan (USD 2,794) in national subsidies and an additional 2,000-3,000 yuan in local Chongqing subsidies.
Automakers offered extra discounts: Changan UNI provided up to 32,000 yuan in cash and luxury gifts; BYD offered low down payments, zero interest, up to 60 months of extended loans, and a 2,999-yuan travel voucher; and Geely models featured discounts of approximately 30,000 yuan.

Wang Xiaolong, deputy director of the Automobile Department of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, said that the rural new energy vehicle promotion will boost supercharging infrastructure, address gaps in rural support, and improve the environment for buying and using these vehicles.
The event also included motorcycles, highlighting Chongqing's role as a top motorcycle producer. The city's 2024 trade-in promotion for electric and fuel-powered motorcycles and bicycles, announced in June, runs until October.
Dealers offered discounts, vouchers, and trade-in credits. For instance, Haojue's electric motorcycles were discounted by 300-800 yuan, with trade-in credits up to 2,000 yuan - additional perks involved free helmets, registration, insurance, and driving license application services.
