Land Meets Sea· International Cultural Carnival to Open in Chongqing

Chongqing - The "Land Meets Sea· International Cultural Carnival" is set to open from July 18 to 20 at Yuandong City, Chongqing. This large-scale international event will bring together artists, performers, craftspeople, and culinary experts across the globe, offering a rich and immersive cultural experience for residents and visitors alike.

Participants from 13 countries including Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Cameroon, Italy, Liberia, the Philippines, India, the United States, Indonesia, Russia, and Kazakhstan will participate in this three-day celebration, presenting diverse performances, exhibitions, and interactive activities.

Opening Ceremony: Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through Performance

The Carnival will commence with an official opening ceremony on Friday, July 18, at 7:30 PM, featuring a curated lineup of performances that reflect both tradition and innovation:

Yibo Martial Arts Troupe

Hailing from Yubei, officially recognized as one of China’s “National Towns of Martial Arts,” the Yibo Martial Arts Team specializes in traditional weaponry and choreographed routines. The team has received numerous awards at both national and regional competitions.

Mindy Meng Wang and Tim Shiel

Guzheng artist Mindy Meng Wang, known for her pioneering cross-genre work, will join forces with Australian electronic music producer and broadcaster Tim Shiel. Their collaboration blends classical Chinese instrumentation with contemporary electronic music, creating an immersive auditory experience that bridges cultures and eras.

Skyline Club Band

Founded by Brazilian guitarist Juba and Chongqing-based drummer Chen Tong, the Skyline Club Band has been active for over a decade. With the recent addition of bassist Liu Tongyu, the group continues to bring fresh energy and international flair to their performances.

Time Vocal Lab

A sub-group of the Chongqing-based Time Chamber Choir, Time Vocal Lab is a small ensemble of 8 to 12 members. The group is dedicated to reimagining popular music through a cappella arrangements and experimental vocal harmonies.

International City Exhibition

With participation from foreign consulates and local and multinational enterprises, the exhibition will showcase culturally distinctive consumer goods and creative products representing various countries. Visitors can explore traditional crafts, modern design, and global customs in a single setting.

Three Gorges Museum Cultural Showcase

A special zone curated by the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum will feature historical and cultural artifacts, offering a window into the deep heritage of the Bayu region.

Gastronomy Experience Zone

Professional chefs, baristas, and mixologists will conduct live demonstrations, inviting audiences to observe, taste, and appreciate a wide variety of international cuisine and beverages.

The event site will include engaging activities such as flag-matching games, global trivia, and puzzle challenges. Custom-designed photo installations—featuring illustrated city landmarks and immersive 3D structures—will provide interactive and visually appealing spaces for attendees.

The Carnival will also feature appearances by prominent online personalities, including Chinese content creator Dujiao Show (毒角SHOW) and international vlogger Joey Reed. They will document and share their exploration of Chongqing’s intangible cultural heritage and culinary landscape, offering global audiences a closer look at the city’s cultural richness.
