Remote-Controlled Boats, Aircraft, and Robots: Young Minds Compete at Chongqing Tech Contest

Chongqing - A major youth science and technology competition in Chongqing has drawn tens of thousands of​ young participants, showcasing innovation and hands-on skills. The 32nd Chongqing Youth Science Model Competition was held on December 27, bringing together science enthusiasts from across the municipality.

According to the organizers, more than 13,000 students from 28 districts and counties registered for this year's competition. After preliminary rounds at the district and county levels, 1,373 students advanced to compete in the municipal finals.

The event featured three main categories: a marine model contest with remote-controlled stunt boats, an aviation model contest with remote-controlled aircraft, and a vehicle model contest featuring snake-like robots. During the event, participants demonstrated their skills through on-site assembly, debugging, and competitive challenges, showcasing both creativity and hands-on ability.

Ge Fan, Vice Chairman of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology (CAST), encouraged young participants to fully display their talent and creativity, explore the unknown, challenge conventions, and pursue their dreams in science and technology. She also called on teachers to use the competition as an opportunity to spark students' interest in science and foster innovative thinking, laying a solid foundation for the development of future scientists and outstanding engineers. 

Ge noted that the competition aims to provide a platform for technological innovation, enhance scientific literacy, and strengthen innovation, practical skills, and teamwork among young people.

Zhong Yu, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Dadukou District Committee, said the district would take the competition as a new starting point to further foster a culture that values innovation and science, strengthen youth science education programs, and create more opportunities for young people to thrive through technological innovation.

Founded in 1989, the Chongqing Youth Science Model Competition is a long-standing science education program organized by CAST for primary and secondary school students. Over the past decades, it has grown into one of the city's most influential youth science and technology brand events, playing an important role in strengthening scientific foundations, cultivating an innovation-oriented culture, and identifying and nurturing future talent in science and technology.
