Why China ⑤|American Resident Reflects on 25 Years of Life in China

Chongqing - As China's 2026 "Two Sessions" get underway, international voices are sharing their perspectives on the country through the #WhyChina campaign launched by the Western China International Communication Organization. The online initiative, hosted on global social media platforms such as Facebook and X, invites foreign scholars, global key opinion leaders (KOLs), community opinion leaders (COLs), and overseas netizens to share their experiences with China.

CCG senior researcher Mario Cavolo, an Italian American who has lived in China for more than twenty-five years, recently shared his reflections on life in the country, describing China as a place he is proud to call home.  

Mario said moving to China decades ago was a life-changing decision. “China became my home over twenty-five years ago, and frankly I couldn’t be happier to be here,” he said. Mario believes China’s emphasis on developing its domestic economy and strengthening self-reliance has contributed to the country’s stability and growth. Creating jobs at home, expanding industry and building economic strength within the country, he said, are policies that benefit society as a whole.

Looking ahead, he said he was encouraged by the policy direction outlined during China’s annual “Two Sessions,” which he believes will continue to support economic development and social well-being.

“It’s been an amazing twenty-five years,” he said. “I look forward to seeing what the next twenty-five years will bring.”
