Fifth Global Media Innovation Forum: Global Media Leaders to Gather in Mountain City for a Dialogue on the Future

Chongqing - From June 8 to 10, the fifth Global Media Innovation Forum, co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, will be held in Chongqing. Under the theme "Upholding and Redefining: The Mission of Media in the Intelligent Age", the forum will bring together approximately 300 representatives from countries and regions around the world to discuss media transformation and responsibility in the wave of intelligent technologies.

The 5th CMG Forum

The Global Media Innovation Forum is a high-profile, high-impact event. Initiated and organized by CMG in January 2022, it has been held annually in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shandong Province over the past four sessions. And the inaugural forum received a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping. Through these editions, the forum has grown into a premier international exchange platform bringing together media elites, tech giants, and academic leaders. This year's forum will be held in Chongqing, marking the first time it has come to a western province or municipality since its inception. This choice fully recognizes Chongqing's strengths in the digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, its growing openness to the world, and its international communication capabilities. It also reflects the city's commitment to serving China's broader international communication strategy and enhancing its global influence.

The forum welcomes a diverse lineup of distinguished guests from home and abroad, including heads of international organizations and mainstream media outlets, as well as representatives from Chinese and foreign think tanks, multinational corporations and leading tech enterprises. Through keynote speeches and themed dialogues, participants will exchange cutting-edge insights on technological changes and cultural exchanges, and jointly explore how media sectors can work together to build a fairer, cleaner and more prosperous global communication landscape in the intelligent age.

The forum features three main sections: a plenary session, breakout sessions, and outreach activities.

Plenary Session (June 10, morning)

This core session will include important addresses and keynote speeches by Chinese and international guests, as well as the release of seven major outcomes, including a series of CMG technological innovations and supporting achievements from Chongqing. A forum initiative will also be issued to build consensus on global media cooperation.

Breakout Sessions (June 10, afternoon)

Focusing on the Global South perspective, a special program titled "Voices of the Global South" will be recorded. Under the theme "The Intelligent Wave from a South-South Perspective: Redefining Inclusion, Fairness, and Justice", seasoned media professionals from six regions Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and the South Pacific will engage in dialogues on upholding journalistic authenticity and building a fair and inclusive global communication system in the intelligent age.

Outreach Activities (June 8-9)

International guests and foreign media will be invited to visit Chongqing along four themed routes, experiencing the city's inland openness, intelligent manufacturing, and natural-cultural charms. On June 10, the "This Is Chongqing" theme exhibition and CMG's innovative technology exhibition will be held at the main venue, showcasing modern Chongqing's development achievements and cutting-edge audio-visual technologies. A special drone light show will also light up the night sky over Chongqing, offering a visual feast blending technology and culture.

Why Chongqing? Strength and Commitment

As one of China's most significant international conferences this year, this forum was successfully secured by Chongqing through active efforts. In recent years, Chongqing has hosted a series of high-profile international events, including the "Belt and Road" Journalists Forum, the Silk Road TV Community Summit, and the China-Arab Radio and TV Cooperation Forum. These experiences have given the city mature event-hosting capabilities and an efficient system for international communication.

The forum is expected to deliver three major outcomes.

First, building a bridge for in-depth dialogue between Chinese and international media. Top media executives, leading scholars, and tech visionaries will gather in Chongqing to see the city's authentic, multidimensional, and dynamic image. This is a high-level global showcase of the city, helping the world better understand China and Chongqing as a living example of Chinese modernization.

Second, leveraging global media resources to boost Chongqing's opening-up. The forum will highlight Chongqing's advantages in industry, ecology, and culture. Initiatives such as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the development of an inland open hub require international attention and cooperation. Global media coverage serves as the best "investment invitation" and "letter of engagement".

Third, empowering local media for high-quality development. The forum will bring cutting-edge ideas and technological cases in media innovation. Chongqing's media will have the opportunity to engage directly with world-class peers, seizing opportunities in artificial intelligence and media convergence to inject new momentum into the citys cultural and communications development.

On June 10, the world's eyes will be on Chongqing, a deep dialogue on the mission of media in the intelligent age is about to begin in the mountain city.
