By Yuling Chen, EDITOR

Mr. Komatsu Michihiko has been the Consul General at Consulate General of Japan in Chongqing Municipality since September 2, 2017. Combining his working experiences in Beijing and Guangzhou, the Consul General has spent more than 15 years in China and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing Municipality has entered its twentieth year. Over the past 4 decades, China-Japan relations have traveled an extraordinary journey with both fruitful achievements and twists and turns. And in the eyes of Mr. Komatsu Michihiko, what he sees in Chongqing is much different from what he learned about the city from written materials and others’ ideas, which tended to be negative.

So, how does the Japanese Consul General see Chongqing? In a word, seeing is believing. There are many good places to visit, good foods to eat and good people to meet.

In this interview, Mr. Komatsu Michihiko says that Chongqing is a mountainous city with zigzag roads. And that’s why the municipality is special when it is compared with Beijing and Guangzhou. But one big challenge in current working place of Chongqing relies on spicy food like a hot pot. It seems that chili pepper is everywhere. When it comes to Chongqing people, however, they leave a good impression on Mr. Komatsu Michihiko’s mind. They are hard-working, diligent and easy to get along with.

Chongqing enjoys rapid economic development. Skyscrapers, rail transit, expressways and high-speed railways are here to show the city’s dynamics.

In the video, you will wow at Mr. Komatsu Michihiko’s fluent Chinese, learn how he sees Chongqing in a different way and knows what he would like to introduce to his countrymen about the city.
