“The tourism in Chongqing will be more prosperous!” When hearing Chongqing is going to hold the 1st International Seminar of Thermalism, Climate for Healthy Wellness & Tourism in China (hereinafter referred to as the Seminar), Yang Lin was so happy. “There are many experts coming to make suggestions for hot spring industry. There is no doubt our city will benefit.”

Yang Lin works for Sheenjoy Group. She is the person in charge of hot spring business. When the reporter arrived at the Sheenjoy Hotel, venue of the Seminar, she was busy preparing for the upcoming event along with the staff.

Because of its unique and abundant geothermal resource, this metropolis of western China has been named “Global Hot Spring Capital” by World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy (FEMTEC).

The Seminar will be held from the 15^th to the 17^th at Beibei District, Chongqing. Taking advantage of this event, Beibei has decided to upgrade the tourism industry by integrating healthcare and hot spring related industries.

The Northern Hot Spring of Chongqing, located in Beibei, has a 1600-year history. It is still in operations. It is one of the five most recommended destinations for hot spring tour in China.

A lot of hotel brands have settled in Beibei, including some luxury hotels such as Bolian Resorts, Banyan Tree, etc. During the past week of national holidays of China, the Jinyun Mountain-Northern Hot Spring scenic area received over 200,000 visitors.

How to empower the hot spring industry in Chongqing?

At present, the FEMTEC has settled an office and a research center in Chongqing. More than 10 experts of the field will be the special consultants.

On the other hand, Beibei will build a platform of exchange for global experience to empower the hot spring tourism here.

New concepts of “tourism”

In order to enhance the hot spring tourism, Beibei proposed new concepts to integrate tourism and recreation with hot spring industry.

Two years ago, the Sheenjoy Group began to cooperate with Beibei TCM Hospital and Southwest University of China to provide integrated services such as “hot spring plus healthcare”.

In such occasion, visitors can not only enjoy hot springs, but also experience healthcare courses and free medical treatment provided by experts.

Up to now, 146 hot spring mines have been discovered in Chongqing. The reserve of water is about 560 million cubic meters per year.

It is expected Chongqing will receive 50 million visitors for hot spring by 2020, and the income will be over RMB 70 billion.
