The Administration of Sport of Chongqing unveiled the Action Plan for Building a National Prime Destination of Outdoor Sports (2018-2022) (hereinafter referred to as the “Action Plan”). The Action Plan aims to boost national fitness. Based on the plan, Chongqing will establish five outdoor sports tourism demonstration areas by 2022. In the meantime, Chongqing will launch more than 36 international and domestic outdoor brand events. It focuses on developing Chongqing into a preferred destination of outdoor sports in China. In addition, the plan also devotes to develop the city as a sports-tourism leisure city.

Key Parts of the Action Plan

Zhang Xin, Deputy Director of the Administration, said that the Action Plan corresponds to the implementation of other two plans. They are the National Fitness Regulations and the Chongqing National Fitness Implementation Plan (2016-2020). Furthermore, it also proposes the concrete measures for the integrated development of national fitness, and for the three-dimensional development of outdoor sports in the “water, land and air”. It strives to form an all-around (point, line, surface) outdoor sports pattern that covers all seasons.

Centered on the Action Plan, Chongqing will launch numerous key events, including a marathon, outdoor mountain competitions, cycling, triathlon, dragon boat racing, rock climbing, aquatic sports, golf, self-driving, and air sports. It will establish Wansheng Demonstration Area for Global Sports Tourism, Wulong Demonstration Area for Wuling Mountain Outdoor Sports, Urban Sports Tourism Demonstration Area, Sports Tourism Demonstration Area of Three Gorges Reservoir Region, and Longxing Demonstration Area for Modern Fashion Sports Tourism. Meanwhile, Chongqing will fcous on the development of outdoor sports surrounding the public, speed up the construction of the facilities, and popularize the related projects, so as to facilitate online and offline development as well as offer support for this industry.
