An earthquake and landslide in the reign of Emperor Qianlong led to the current five-meter Yangjiaoqi Beach. With its dangerous vortexs, turbulent wave, and steep rocks, it becomes the most dangerous shoal there.

Yangjiaoqi had the most prosperous and brilliant period during about 150 years from the late Qing Dynasty to the Chinese Communist Revolution. Meanwhile, Yangjiaoqi had always been the ancient town and important water transportation terminal in Wujiang Drainage Area. Boat trackers were extremely poor. However, they made great contributions to the prosperity and brilliance of this place in the long history. Even in the face of death, many of them regarded the thousand-mile Wujiang River as their final destination. Moreover, in their opinions, each spindrift was a tomb for them.

Work songs from boat trackers in Wujiang Valley was the soul of this ancient town. The history of the ancient town suggests that songs became prosperous, brilliant and splendid because of these boat trackers.

The work song of the boat trackers with thousands of years had still resounded in Wujiang Valley. At present, another water-town locates on the other side of Wujiang River. In addition, it is in the original ancient town in response to restore that period of history.

Currently, the local government of Wulong County planned to create the newly relocated Yangjiao Town into China’s first Wujiang Water-Town and a world-class tourist museum with boat tracker culture theme. Yangjiao town will follow the Overall Planning of Tourism Development of Yangjiao Ancient Town, as an AAAA scenic area. It will create a Historical Wujiang Grand Theatre, Yangjiao Craft Experience Park, Boat Tracker Culture Museum and Yangjiao Living Museum. In the meantime, it plans to open its streets on May 1, 2019.

Preservation of Cultural Relics

“During the relocation, we have taken relevant protection measures to avoid risks. Therefore, the cultural relics will move to the newly built water-town. This will bring archaic Chinese charm to the town and make it a scenic spot,” said a staff of Yangjiao Town People’s Government.

Transportation

Yangjiao Ancient Town leans against Wulong Fairy Mountain, a national 5A scenic area. It faces the Baima Mountain Scenic Area under construction. Moreover, it is near to Wujiang River and National Highway 319 Line. Meanwhile, it has 10 kilometers far from the urban area of Wulong. The ridge ramp of G65 Chongqing-Hunan Highway will open to traffic in 2019. Tourists will directly arrive at Yangjiao Ancient Town after getting off the ramp on the occasion.
